Stories from the Studio: Mandy McDonald
STA spent an afternoon with Mandy McDonald in her Upper Lachlan Studio.
My art is influenced by Bauhaus movement. I also like the egalitarian notion of no separation between art and craft. In May I curated the Bauhaus to My House exhibition in Crookwell for Crookwell Men’s Shed, of which I am a member. I make my furniture and wooden frames there. My main medium is glass; slumped, cast, fused, embossed, etched….I like copper piping.
As a volunteer I write for the ArtScene page for or community newspaper, the Upper Lachlan Gazette. I have started to look at the Public Art of the ULS with fresh eyes. I think there is a book to be written, Public Art Trail of the Upper Lachlan Shire. If I am successful at the Local Government Elections on Saturday 4 December I shall be advocating for beautifying our villages with (more) Public art.
I run workshops for a new gallery space in Crookwell, Get Creative . This Sunday is Pickled Painters. Next year I have Painting To Music and Musical Painting lined up. Also a workshop on Solargrams, another Bauhaus influence.
Mandy’s work is currently part of an exhibition at the new Gallery space in Crookwell. Head to Get Creative in Crookwell to check it out.
