Stories from the Studio: Walter Brecely

This week we caught up with Walter Brecely at his current exhibition Imaginarium at Gallery on Track in Goulburn.

Walter is a highly accomplished silversmith, sculptor and visual artist who has exhibited in many group and solo shows throughout Australia and abroad. Walter recently received a highly commended and the peoples choice award in the Bowral Sculpture Prize  then won the BOCCA (best of city and country art) for sculpture, judged by Ben Quilty!

Since 2007, Walter has regularly run private Jewellery Classes, Jewellery and Sculpture Workshops and individual student tutoring/mentoring. Walter creates bespoke works (such as uniquely customised wedding rings and interior design objects) and drawing, sculpture, and jewellery commissions by request.

“Often using recycled materials my art practice explores form, touch, movement and sound, which I accomplish by using a variety of sculpture, Jewellery and silversmithing techniques in both the manipulation and construction of the materials, which all aid in the initial concept reaching its full potential”.
