Arts and Health – Natural Allies

STA are thrilled to be part of the Arts and Heritage Committee for the redevelopment of the Goulburn base Hospital. A working group that STA have been contributing to for over five years to realise the arts, cultural and heritage components of the $165 million Goulburn Hospital and Health Service Redevelopment.
A milestone achievement this week with the unveiling of a major work by local by Muruwari and Ngemba woman and contemporary Aboriginal artist, Monica Bridge.
The painting now takes pride of place in the new main entrance foyer of the Goulburn Base Hospital. Developed through workshops and consultation with the local Aboriginal Community the imagery represents an interpretation of the Goulburn-Mulwaree area including the mountains, hills, and rivers.

The unveiling of the painting completes the Arts and Heritage Integration Strategy for the Redevelopment, which includes two major stairway commissions, Springfield Place historical exhibition, photographic installations of local flora and refurbishment of existing art and heritage collection items throughout clinical areas of the new service.

The connection between STA to Goulburn Base Hospital has made other projects possible such as the Room with a View Palliative Care art program and a street mural planned at the Hospital as part of the PAINT THE TOWN Street Art Festival.
