Sturt Gallery and Studios: 80 Years of excellence under review
Sturt Gallery and Studios is a much loved institution with a rich history of creative excellence that spans back 80 years. Sturt is a nationally recognised cultural and educational hub with extensive facilities for ceramics, woodworking, jewellery making and more. Sturt Gallery and Studios runs a full program of educational opportunities, events and exhibitions.
Located in Mittagong (Wingecarribee) and set within historic gardens and buildings, Sturt is one of three campuses that form the Frensham Schools.
Sturt Gallery and Studio is a unique and inspiring experience, having nurtured global talent and instilled a deep respect for craftsmanship.
Sturt will close temporarily for review. The review was announced in a letter dated 5 February from Geoff Marsh, Head of Frensham Schools, the closure was attributed to operational and financial challenges. Marsh described the review as “important and exciting,”
Despite uncertainty, there’s optimism for Sturt’s future with the further letter from Edward Studdy from the Board of Governors, dated 26 February, announcing the appointment of Jennifer Bott AO as the Chair of the Sturt Review Committee. Jenny is a highly regarded arts professional who brings an enormous wealth of experience to head up the review.
The announcement has provided some reassurance to many in the community who are fearful for Sturt’s future.
Full transcripts of both letters are available to read here.
