STA Commissions

STA supports local Artists and Creatives in heaps of different ways. One that’s close to our heart is the ongoing commissioning and licencing program. We work with Artists to achieve a range of authentic imagery and objects that STA use to promote and showcase amazing makers across our region.

When STA advocate support for local makers, we aim to back that up in real ways. We are super proud that at meetings and events we use local hand made ceramics. That our end of year greetings are connected to country through the works of local Aboriginal Artists. That we have local artworks available at our merch store and that the STA car is a travelling work of art. STA love living in our region and supporting our local arts and cultural sector with professional opportunities to shine.

Connect Ceramics by Kate McKay 2024

When STA launched Connect@GunningStation we wanted local handmade ceramics as a key feature of events at the station. We turned to local ceramicist Kate to commission a range of functional wares that now take centre stage at Connect@GunningStation events.

Jodie Munday 'One Nation - Many People' 2021

STA Acknowledgment of Country Commission 2022

STA worked with Jodie Munday to create our First Nations acknowledgment screen when you arrive at our site using Jodie’s work One Nation – Many People.
This work is a representation of our land and our people. The Magenta background is symbolic of our rich soils and our rich history. The large waterhole in the background connects life and land to water which both need to survive and thrive. The black and white circles in the centre of the image represent our ancestors. Spreading out across the work are many orange circles which represent different people and different mobs. These circles are joined across many paths to each other and our ancestors.
This work tells the story that no matter how far we travel or what path we take in life we are always connected to our ancestors and we travel our journey with their knowledge, strength and guidance always by our sides and in our hearts.  Jodie Munday

Jodie Munday 'Journeys and Networks' 2021

Jodie Munday Journeys and Networks the STA Seasons Greeting for 2021

The work shows man, woman and child in the centre as individuals within a family unit. The green
journey lines then branch out from the centre joining each larger circle around it.
The flower/leave circles represent medicine both traditional and modern, and the role they play in
supporting a holistic approach to our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and health.
The smaller repeated circles represent our mob, immediate family, extended family, Elders and
Ancestors. The tracks going around the outside are our individual journeys. These tracks have road
blocks, they represent cross roads and challenges we face in life and times where we need to stop,
regather our thoughts, regroup ourselves and with the support, guidance and teachings from mob
we rebuild and continue on life’s journey.
The large pink circles are our support networks be they mates, friends, mentors or Elders etc within
our communities that work together to support us to grow and become the people that we are. The
white dots behind the work illustrates our ancestors watching over us and guiding us and also a
safety of all these elements combined to catch us when we fall and help build us up again.
It doesn’t not matter what your family looks like or what your support network looks like, everyone’s
family and supports are different, but they are all there to guide us, teach us and help us grow into
the best people we can be.
