STA Dance 4 Wellbeing in Yass with Jess Conneely

Dance 4 Wellbeing is for everyone who wants to dance, specifically: people with Parkinson’s, chronic pain, arthritis, repetitive strain injury, chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, neurological conditions and other physical/mobility complaints, their carers, partners and friends. Dancing together brings social connection, joy and creativity.
Participants will learn choreographed dance and movement for physical health, wellbeing and a love of dance in a socially connected environment. No dance experience required, two left feet are welcome. 

The 60min class is an uplifting seated, supported and standing session, promoting health and wellbeing by encouraging movement to optimise mobility, physical and mental wellbeing. Regular movement and music can lift your spirits no matter your experience, mobility, or age.

About Jess Conneely – your Dance 4 Wellbeing Facilitator

Jessica Conneely is a highly experienced artist and facilitator in dance and education. With over 30 years of performing, teaching and educating others on the benefits of dance, Jessica delivers safety-conscious dance programs for older adults in Community, online and Aged Care across NSW.

Following a career as a professional company dancer in France and Australia, Jessica currently works across Arts and Health sectors delivering inclusive, artistic, and holistic programs to enrich the lives of older adults in care and community. Her practice is led by creative engagement specific for elders and adopting various novel approaches to movement and music that keeps participants interested and engaged.

As a trainer in vocational education, Jess works with Health and Care professionals to enrich and complement the work with the use of creativity, music and movement to support a better quality of life for their clients.

Jess received numerous awards and grants to build best practice in dance and creative engagement for our ageing population. Additionally, she has adapted her artistic imagination to mentor and encourage others to meet their potential in positively impacting an individual’s health and well-being.

Jess established Dance4Wellbeing in 2017, recognised as one of Australia’s most innovative dance and movement providers for over 55s delivering programs tailored for individuals, community groups, residential aged care and online.

Currently co-director of Dance for Parkinson’s Australia, establishing the Newcastle PD program in 2016 growing and connecting to the Hospital and rehabilitation networks. As former Creative Arts Officer for the Hunter Medical Research Institute’s ESTEEM, a 4-year community-based enrichment program supporting people after Stroke, Jess established the movement program with great success.

Now living in Young, NSW Dance4wellbeing is expanding the community programs into the regions to offer these well developed,unique, safe and enjoyable sessions for the ageing population.

What to wear
Loose comfortable clothing, layers for when we get a bit warm, supportive shoes if you prefer to keep them on, and if you want to take your shoes off, make sure they are easy to get back on.

Accessibility
Classes are gentle and designed specifically for people with access needs. The class is adaptable to ensure everyone can participate. St Andrews Hall has parking at the door and level access for entry.
