Art is Dangerous – for all the right reasons

The Dogs of War exhibition coming up at Bowral Art Gallery by painter Stan Korytnyj will illicit strong reactions from all who see it. The paintings are challenging, difficult and emotional as they express the artist’s views on war and invasion. Themes sadly as topical as ever.

Work like Stan’s is dangerous for those that demand a passive acceptance of aggression. It is shocking that violent threats have been made to the Artist in an attempt to stop the exhibition and silence the conversations that will be triggered. Threats designed to intimidate and frighten. The very acts Stan’s work speaks out against.

Art must always remain a safe space to have difficult conversations despite the bullies who would keep us silent. The threats simply reinforcing that Art is powerful and so are we.

STA Executive Director Rose Marin is opening the exhibition at Bowral art Gallery, 6pm Friday 10 February. The exhibition continues until 13 February.
