The Forelle Ensemble is a newly formed piano quintet
based in Sydney. James Armstrong was inspired to
form a Chamber Music Ensemble after returning from
Vienna and Salzburg, which he was able to visit in
2020 as the winner of the ‘Austria Scholarship’ granted
by Sydney Youth Orchestras and Austrian National
Tourist Office.
A journey of Austrian chamber music through NSW and ACT, June/July 2021
In homage to Austrian chamber music, the Forelle Ensemble
travels through NSW and ACT in the spirit of Franz Schubert.
During his lifetime in the early 19th century, Schubert’s music
was exclusively played at intimate house soirees, famously
known as Schubertiaden. Today the term Schubertiade also
refers to concert series and festivals. Born in Vienna, 1797,
Franz Schubert excelled in every musical genre, but with more
than 600 Lieder to his name, the ‘Prince of Song’ proved to
be by far the most creative composer in music history when it
comes to beautiful melodies.
On this Schubertiade tour – celebrating the 200th anniversary
of the first documented Schubertiade – the Forelle Ensemble
performs the following Schubert pieces: Piano Quintet in A
major, D.667 (‘Forellenquintett’, engl. ‘Trout Quintet’), Violin
Sonata in A major and Trio in B flat major.
