Giselle Newbury: Stories from the Studio

Giselle has been with STA for ten years and has worked across so many projects and programs right across the region.

The first Major projects that I worked in were the Goulburn Oratorio in partnership with the Lieder Theatre and Hume Conservatorium and the Indelible Stencil Project.

The Oratorio Celebrating the Sesquicentenary of Goulburn was an amazing performance with a combine Choir (Featuring our own Susan Brindle) performing the Oratorio by Stephen Leek.  Performed in the ground of St Saviours with performances by the Lieder Youth. The Lieder performed with giant puppets, bogan moths and circus firemen!. It was a spectacular event!

Some of my favourite programs have been in small schools including the amazing Puppet Up project with the Sydney Puppet Theatre making puppets and performances with small school across the region.  Others such as Goulburn Comic Con, The Lambing Flat Chinese Festival and lantern parade, Waste free for me, Waste to Art, Beeswax Wraps, Lantern making with Tracy Luff, Maisie’s Choir, and so much more…

In more recent times the Great Southern Line Anzac Story, Creative Fitness and Illuminate have been some big highlights working with communities and artists in the region.

During Covid with crazy lockdowns and remote working i am incredibly proud to have worked with Rose Marin to develop deeper community connections despite the isolation. The Stories from the Studio features and our website definite highlights from that time for me.

During my last few months we applied for many grants and i am so proud that STA will be able to continue working in the community with the funding achieved with more than $400,000 for the Paint the Town Project, Woven Together and a marketing project for Creative South.

I have enjoyed my time with STA and have had so many great times support the arts and cultural life in the region.  I am immensely grateful to our Executive Director Rose Marin for her generosity, support and guidance during the last two years.

I am excited to be now working with Hume Conservatorium as their Outreach and Communications Manager.  My passion is support artists and making community connections through arts making processes.  I am thrilled that Hume Conservatorium and STA are able to partner on several new programs including Dance and Movement for Wellbeing (building on the legacy of Dance for Wellbeing) and another choir for seniors based in Goulburn.
