Lismore Regional Gallery is one of the longest-running cultural organisations in the Northern Rivers of NSW, beloved by the local community and visitors alike. The gallery is a place where people come together to share stories.
On 28 February 2022, the gallery was entirely inundated by the catastrophic flood that ripped across the Northern Rivers region. In preparation for a moderate flood on Sunday, they moved everything to the gallery’s top floor to mitigate any chance of damage. However, the water rose to an unprecedented level in a matter of hours. Artworks in the permanent collection and current exhibitions, and seventy years of history were damaged and lost to the flood.
Since then, the staff have worked tirelessly to carefully remove damaged artworks from the gallery for conservation and insurance assessment, with assistance from specialist art handlers and conservators. Over three hundred and fifty volunteers helped us clear debris from the building and scrubbed mud and filth from every surface over four days. They anticipate a long road to recovery for the building and, of course, our community.
Donations will help Lismore Regional Gallery recover and become a thriving space again. Your tax-deductible donation will demonstrate the value of Lismore Regional Gallery as the central location for expression, healing, and creativity.
