Sue & Stephen from ImaginArta: Stories from the Studio

It has been an inspirational journey working with Sue and Stephen towards their ImaginArta Puppets: Masters of making and performing retrospective exhibition now on at Connect@GunningStation.

Sue and Stephen are accomplished masters of their chosen creative area of puppetry. With decades of dedicated commitment to perfecting their craft.

The STA region is truly lucky to be home to Sue and Stephen who run the ImaginArta – Australian Puppet Centre in Sutton Forrest, where the whole family can enojy a live puppet show  every Sunday at 11am.

A visit into their home studio is like venturing into a wonderland of characters. Puppets or all shapes, colours and capabilities inhabit every wall, rack and surface. The complexity of many of the puppets is mind boggling, especially given that each is painstakingly hand-crafted using skills amassed over a lifetime.

You would be forgiven for thinking each exquisitely crafted puppet could spring to life at any moment. And that’s just what happens when Sue and Stephen animate their creations. Transforming the puppets into a living breathing characters of charm, mischief, and tales to tell.

The exhibition on display at Connect@GunningStation features dozens of puppets of all types as well as  beautiful photographic images taken over years of performances. Perhaps most exciting is an especially created interactive shadow puppet theatre that invites the audience to create their own fun puppet show and stories using an array of puppets on offer.

The show is complimented online by a series of short movies where Sue and Stephen bring the puppets to life.

The ImaginArta Puppets: Masters of making and performing exhibition must close this Sunday so get hope in the car, train, bike or get on the roller skates and get to Connect@GunningStation before the puppets head home to Sutton Forest.
