Stories from the Studio: Kate Butler

Beautiful Bungendore is full of creative places to see art and meet the artists that make it. STA have been getting to know our way about the thriving arts community of Bungendore and are so excited to invite you  along for a recent visit to meet Kate Butler and see her exhibition ‘Presence//Absence’ at X Gallery an intimate gallery in the heart of Bungendore.

Mosaics are a much loved creative artform and every once in a while an Artist comes along who pushes the boundaries of what mosaic art can be. Kate Butler creates spectacular sculptural forms that simply can’t be adequately described as Mosaic. They move  beyond that label into the unexpected. Into the realm of a maker in true command of her chosen materials. Into the extraordinary. 

Kate’s sculptural mosaics are unlike anything you’ve seen before. Her beautifully sensitive works express her great love of the natural world and speak to our rapidly disappearing planet due to the climate crisis, land clearing and human greed.
