My name is Lily Cummins and I am an artist based in the Southern Highlands, NSW. I work with a combination of abstract and recognisable forms, questioning the idea of representation and creating a dream-like patchwork of memory. A language of marks and shapes defines my work as I observe my surroundings and translate them into drawings.
Drawing, especially at the moment has taken on a new poignancy. The immediacy of the act of putting graphite directly onto a surface is inherently reassuring and allows me to create a visual language through partially envisaged scenes, mark making and shapes. I have found myself returning to familiar objects and media. This time has taught me that it is a privilege to be able to create and express experiences that are sometimes too difficult for words.
