Song Circle with The Vocal Muster

Join Song Circle with the Vocal Muster for 4 virtual song writing workshops in September.

Join us 4 song writing workshops for young people impacted by the 2019-2020 bushfires in the Wingecarribee region.

The Vocal Muster is a well-known local charitable organisation building confidence and self-esteem in young people through performance and mentoring.

About Song Circle

The project has the support of many distinguished Australian singer songwriters including, Murray Cook, Midnight Oil; Nick Andrews; Jeff St John; Steve Cheers, Cowpoke (local award winning performer); John martin, Australian Composer and Ann Carr-Boyd, Australian Composer.

The workshops will focus on a way for the students to reflect safely on the 2019-2020 bushfires, to write lyrics and music and develop songs as a way of healing and communicating the strength of young people and the communities they belong to. Song are a power way to express emotions, feelings and thoughts and also a way to have explore difficult emotions and reactions to adversity.

The workshops will enable young people to give voice to their experiences and concerns while feeling protected in a supportive environment with creative industry professionals, psychologists and Vocal Muster mentors.

Song Circle will run over 6 weeks and encourage young people to express their experiences through song in the healing atmosphere.  The participants will then be encouraged to perform the songs to affected communities in Balmoral, Penrose or Bundanoon. The songs and performances will be professionally recorded and streamed on music platforms with the young artists retaining full copyright protection for their work.

Funded by the Bushfire Recovery Fund the project will see the young songwriters teamed up with industry professionals to develop their song writing and performance skills culminating in a public performance.

About the Vocal Muster

Since its inception, The Vocal Muster has existed to support and encourage emerging vocal talent from high schools.  Their goal is to allow students the opportunity to express their passion by performing, thereby gaining vital experience and confidence, plus pursuing their dreams of singing. They also assist with performing lessons, training in dealing with body image, stage fright and breathing techniques.

Whilst some students with real performance and vocal talent may emerge, they are largely about building self esteem and confidence, valuing individual skills and providing a safe and nurturing social setting.  Some young people are not interested in activities other than music. The Vocal Muster provides opportunities for young people to perform in a space where art, music and song can be created and enjoyed.

The Vocal Muster accepts young people for being themselves and provide a place where they want to be and are wanted.  They often establish close friendships and a feeling of fitting in and BELONGING. The Vocal Muster provides scheduled events every month of the year.  These include club performances, workshops, masterclasses, virtual concerts, video and audio recordings, showcases, jam nights and supporting special community events. They are proud to have attracted industry professionals and tutors, to assist students in workshops and masterclasses.  For some students, they also provide individual singing and performance lessons.
