Stories from the Studio: Ricky Khan

This week STA were invited to visit Richard Khan aka Ricky at his home studio in Mittagong.

Ricky is a Bundjalung man from the Northern Rivers, country of snakes and goannas. His dad is Tomas Roach, the Grandson of Tracker Bill Robinson and Katherine Khan.
Ricky has been painting for over 30 years. His paintings depict intimate stories about his relations with significant others. He believes in uniformity and honor.

In presenting his work, Ricky has kept his word to Kay. Kay was Ricky’s wife to be, who passed away 3 months before they were to marry. Kay encouraged Ricky to put his work out there. Otherwise Richard’s oeuvre would have remained hidden.

In 2019 Ricky and musician Will Nuku met and collaborated in Studio 2166 located at Cabramatta’s Whitlam library. The resulting video makes great watching.
