What a delight it is to visit the home studio of Harriet Schwarzrock & Mathew Curtis at their glass blowing studio in their backyard in Queanbeyan, in a former Arnott’s biscuit factory.

Both are internationally established glass artists, that are often joined at work by their son Hugo. STA got to visit in the lead up to the QPRC ‘Meet the Makers’ Arts Trail.

Harriet is a master of illuminated glass working with neon. Her Heart room features dozens of glowing neon hearts. Nothing can prepare you for the experience of walking amongst these hearts, a jaw dropping moment everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.

Mathew’s space is equally stunning with the clean architectural lines of monumental glass structures that play with a mixture of recycled glass materials.

There will be regular neon bending demonstrations and plasma illuminated works to see up close. There will also be prototypes and production ware available for sale. Matt and Harry have a cheeky studio tradition of a trade table with objects available to trade for local honey or a bottle of dry white wine.

A visit to their open studio this weekend for the QRPC Ats trail is highly recommended. The only warning is that’s its impossible to leave empty handed.
