Jurassic Park – April 2024

Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi, monster-movie classic. On a remote Pacific island, an experiment has taken place: Dr John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) is creating a zoo/theme park and the main attractions are living dinosaurs, brought to life using fossilized DNA remains. Hammond’s lofty ideas turn deadly though after he invites five visitors (Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum included) to preview the facilities. Nature this big can’t be contained and the island’s guests find themselves in wildnerness, battling to survive among the prehistoric predators.

A watershed moment in CGI effects, Jurassic Park became the highest grossing film of all time on it’s release in 1993. It was surpassed by James Cameron’s Titanic in 1997.

Exit Through The Gift Shop

Exit Through the Gift Shop is a 2010 British documentary film directed by street artist Banksy. It tells the story of Thierry Guetta, a French immigrant in Los Angeles who, over the course of several years, filmed a host of street artists at work, including Shepard Fairey and Banksy, but failed to do anything with the footage. Eventually, Banksy decided to use the footage to make a documentary, which includes new footage depicting Guetta’s rise to fame as the artist “Mr. Brainwash”.

Since its release, there has been extensive debate over whether the film is a genuine documentary or a mockumentary. When asked if the film is real, Banksy simply replied: “Yes.”

Rear Window

A wheelchair-bound photographer spies on his neighbors from his Greenwich Village courtyard apartment window, and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder, despite the skepticism of his fashion-model girlfriend.

Rear Window is a 1954 American mystery thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and written by John Michael Hayes based on Cornell Woolrich’s 1942 short story “It Had to Be Murder.” Originally released by Paramount Pictures, the film stars James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Wendell Corey, Thelma Ritter, and Raymond Burr. It was screened at the 1954 Venice Film Festival. DONT MISS this cult cinematic classic on the big screen. A fitting finale to the 2023 program.

The Lost Boys

In 1987 there was no Twilight and vampires were a whole load cooler and less mopey. Joel Schumacher’s hedonistic horror-comedy was a generation-defining celebration of youth and really made us all want to be vamps, or at least one of the vampire-hunting Frog brothers.

The cast was hot, the hair was big, the soundtrack was rockin’!

A single mother and her two sons Michael and Sam move to California. Michael, quickly falls in with the town’s bad kids – a bike-riding, Jim Morrison-worshipping gang of blood-sucking vampires. His younger son Sam and his buddies are the only ones who recognize the signs of vampirism in Michael, and they plot to battle the legions of the night before they take over the entire town. Dress theme is 80s Vamp Cool. This will be a party to dress for. GET INSPIRED with our PIntrest Board

The Lonely Spirits Variety Hour

Don’t miss the first film of 2023 complete with live music and a Q&A with cast and crew, including the Director, Producer & Cinematographer.

Neville Umbrellaman is a verbose, velvet-voiced intellectual who hosts a late-night radio show from his parents’ garage. The alter ego of Rabindranath Chakraborty, Umbrellaman is deeply committed to the program, a labour of love and fantastical fancy that masks deeper, more tragic truths. Luckily, he’s got plenty of eccentric guests to help him out, from folk singer Kenneth Wong and Terry the neighbour to French baker Yvette and Chakraborty’s secret crush, Sabrina D’Angelo. But is anybody tuning in? The Lonely Spirits Variety Hour is a hilarious, wonderfully weird delight.

The Cinematographer & Editor of this award winning film is local film maker Brian Rapsey. Check out Brian’s Stories from the Studio feature.

Your ticket includes EXCLUSIVE before and after film events;

  • Live music from 3:30 pm from Peter Campbell before the film.
  • Join Platon Theodoris & Brian Rapsey in conversation with STA Screen Creative Director Gary Vehtic after the movie.

Blade Runner (1982)

Neo-noir science fiction film set in Los Angeles 2018, directed by Ridley Scott. The movie depicts a dystopic, grimy landscape where a special division of cops called blade runners hunt rogue androids called replicants.

The screenplay, which was written by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, is loosely based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. Telling a complex tale of what exactly makes us human. Facing that dilemma, along with answering the film’s central mystery… is Deckard human or is he a replicant?

Royal Tenenbaums

Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) and his wife, Etheline (Anjelica Huston), had three children—Chas, Margot, and Richie—and then they separated. Chas (Ben Stiller) started buying real estate in his early teens and seemed to have an almost preternatural understanding of international finance. Margot (Gwyneth Paltrow) was a playwright and received a Braverman Grant of $50,000 in the ninth grade. Richie (Luke Wilson) was a junior champion tennis player and won the U.S. Nationals three years in a row. Virtually all memory of the brilliance of the young Tenenbaums was subsequently erased by two decades of betrayal, failure, and disaster. The Royal Tenenbaums is a hilarious, touching, and brilliantly stylized study of melancholy and redemption from Wes Anderson.

Dress theme is Tenenbaums cool. Get inspired for your look.
